UZEI's Basque Synonym Dictionary's new plug-in available

Sep 27, 2011

The content of the dictionary has been updated and the plug-in has been adapted to MS Word and OpenOffice

This dictionary, which was already available before, now offers two new features:

  1. The content of the dictionary has been updated, data have been checked, adapted and enhanced according to the last rules of the Academy of the Basque Language, and also information sources have increased in recent years. The amount of synonyms has grown a little bit, but not too much. Now the dictionary gathers 25,505 entries, and, as in previous versions, provides dialect and usage marks, to help to keep a homogeneous writing style.
  2. The plug-in has been adapted to MS Word and OpenOffice, taking into account the majority of the users.
    1. MS Word 2003, 2007 and 2010
    2. LibreOffice / OpenOffice: Windows (32-bit, 64-bit) and Linux.

While writing a text, you can right click on a word and get its synonym immediately, so it won´t be necessary to go anywhere else to look it up. The plug-in enables us to enrich the dictionary with just a click.
You will get a synonym for the word form, not just a dictionary entry. That is to say, if you want to look up the meaning of “finish” but in the text you have the form “finishing”, the dictionary will suggest “ending”, and not “to end”. Thus, you can right click on a word and replace it with its synonym, so that you don't have to stop writing. The program analyzes the word and generates the synonym.

You can get the new plug-in here: http://www.kultura.ejgv.euskadi.net/r46-17894/eu/contenidos/informacion/euskarazko_softwarea/eu_9567/plugin.html

The rest is in your hands. We hope you will like it!
